(Oct.) Founded by Bertha Mahony Miller, it is an outgrowth of Miller’s Bookshop for Boys and Girls at the Women’s Educational and Industrial Union at 270 Boylston Street. Considered the first magazine devoted to children’s literature in the U.S., it subsequently holds poetry readings for children by authors including T.S. Eliot, Robert Frost, and Archibald MacLeish. The Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards are established in 1967, and the magazine is purchased by Media Source in 2009.
